Short description:
Aetideopsis albatrossae is an aetideid calanoid copepod known after the female (total length 2.66-2.78 mm) and the fifth copepodid stage of male. The species is known from the type locality only, viz. the tropical part of the Pacific Ocean, in the region of the Philippines.
Taxonomic description:
Female. (Description after Shih and Maclellan (1981) with modifications). Total length 2.66-2.78 mm. Cephalothorax 2.7-3.0 times longer than abdomen. Body surface with "dotted structure". Rostrum with rather wide spaced rami external part of which parallel to each other. Posterior corners pointed, shorter than in other species, covering first third of genital segment. Width and length of genital segment about equal. A1 reaching posterior border of last Abd segment. At Re2 A2 there is medial seta. Base of Md palp with 2 setae, Ri1 Md with 3, Ri2 Md with 9 (8 terminal and 1 posterior) setae. Re Mx1 with 10 setae, all other features of equipment typical of the genus. External spines at Re1 and Re2 P1 exceeding base of following spine, Ri with small lobe. Ri P2 1-jointed, terminal spine at Re3 P2 with 54 denticles; segmentation of Ri1 and Ri2 P3 not complete; Ri P4 3-jointed.
Male. Known after V copepodid stage. Body size 2.20-2.34 mm. Cephalothorax 3.07-3.26 times longer than abdomen.
Geographical distribution:
Known only from tropical part of the Pacific Ocean of the Philippines region.
Type locality: 12°53'N 121°52'E (Shih and Maclellan, 1981).
