Genus Bradyetes

Bradyetes Farran, 1905

Taxonomic description:

Female. Total length 1.19-3.2 mm. Cephalothorax 3-4 times longer than abdomen. Rostrum absent. Cephalon and Th1, as well as Th4-Th5 indistinctly separated or fused. Posterior Th5 corners rounded or pointed. Genital segment and Th5 symmetrical. Abdominal segments with thin minute spinules along posterior border. A1 nearly as long as cephalothorax, reaching the midlength of genital segment. Ri A2 about as long as Re, or Re A2 1.2 times longer; coxopodite with 1, basipodite with 1-2 setae, Re1 A2 with 2 setae, or they are absent; Re2 A2 with 2 setae, Re3-Re6 with 1 seta each, Re7 A2 with 1 medial and 3 terminal setae; Ri1 A2 with 2 setae in distal part of segment, Ri2 A2 with 6-7 terminal and 1 posterior setae at external and 6 terminal and 2 posterior setae at internal lobe. Md palp base with 1-2 setae, Ri1 Md with 1-2 setae, Ri2 Md with 3 or 9 setae. Mx2 of B. matthei with following setation: 3 setae at each first to fourth endites; in distal part of Mx2 5-6 setae. Ri1 Mxp 1.5-1.7 times longer than protopodite, protopodite with seta in proximal part of segment and there are groups of 2, 3 and 3 setae (looking from proximal to distal part of segment), with digital appendage near distal group of setae. Setae at Ri Mxp segments of typical Aetideidae structure (crescent-like appendages absent); group of setae at Ri1 Mxp arranged in the middle of segment. P1 with 3-segmented Re, each segment supplied with external spine, Ri one-segmented, external lobe developed. P2 with 2-segmented Ri and 3-segmented Re. P3-P4 with 3-segmented rami.

Male. Total length 0.90-2.52 mm. Cephalothorax nearly 2.3-4.0 times as long as abdomen. Rostrum absent. Length of A1 about equal to that of cephalothorax. P5 biramous, of simple structure. Right Re 2-, left Re 3-segmented, right Ri P5 always one-segmented, left Ri P5 one- or 2-segmented.

Remarks. Bradyetes brevis Farran, 1936a, earlier attributed to Bradyetes should be removed into genus Jaschnovia , due to the absence of digital appendage at Mxp and external spine at Re1 P1. In this case Jaschnovia johnsoni Markhaseva, 1980 is its junior synonym. Bradyetes florens Grice and Hulsemann, 1967 as noted by Bradford and Jillett (1980) should be removed from Aetideidae.
