Short Description:

Comantenna curtisetosa is an aetideid calanoid copepod known after female (2.2 mm in length) from the continental slope of Brazil from the near-bottom locality.

Taxonomic Description:

Female. (Description after Alvarez (1986) with modifications). Total length 2.2 mm. Cephalothorax 4 times longer than abdomen. Re A2 terminal segment short, terminal short; Ri2 A2 external lobe with 6 long and 1 short posterior seta; internal with 4 long and 4 short setae. Mx1 gnathobase with 9 big and 1 small terminal setae, 4 setae on posterior surface of the lobe, second internal lobe with 4, third with 2 setae, on protopodite near Ri base 3 setae; Ri with 12, Re with 11, external lobe with 5 setae. One of setae on Mx2 fifth endite transformed into thick spine, first-third endites with groups of surface spines. Mxp typical of the genus, Md palp and P1-P4 damaged and not described. P5 rudiment present.

Male unknown.

Vertical distribution:

The species was found at depth 900 m near bottom (Alvarez, 1986).

Geographical distribution:

The species was found from the type locality only: Brazilian continental shelf and slope.

Type locality: 21°37'S 40°03'W (Alvarez, 1986).

Material examined:

Species absent in the collection of the Zoological Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences, St. Petersburg.
